Obituary of Joyce Claire Venable

Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mrs. Joyce Claire Caldwell Venable, age 87, of Barnesville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on December 28th, 2024, at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin, Georgia.

Born on June 16, 1937, in Lexington, GA, she was the beloved daughter of Robert and Maime Caldwell.

A devoted servant of her faith, Joyce was a committed member of Milner Baptist Church and previously a dedicated member of Pineview Baptist Church in Barnesville. Her heart for missions was evident through her active involvement in the Woman’s Missionary Union. Over the years, she provided support to countless individuals through donation drives and mission trips, embodying the spirit of giving and outreach to help others.

Joyce graduated from Wilkes County High School and her career outside the home eventually would lead her to a long tenure with the Laborers International Union Local 438 in Atlanta.

In 1977, Joyce married the love of her life, Mr. Art Venable, in Decatur, Georgia. Together, they shared 47 blessed years of marriage, building a life centered on love, faith, and family. She and Art eventually settled in Barnesville, in a house Art built on Abbott Road in 1985, where they created a warm and welcoming home.

Joyce will be remembered among family and her many friends for her strong faith, devotion to her family, and her service to others. Her empathy for the sick, the grieving, and the hurting is a legacy she clearly passed to her wonderful daughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Maime Caldwell, a sister Mrs. Annette Thurmond, and grandson James Moriarty.   Survivors include her husband, Art Venable; her sister Roberta George of Washington; three daughters and sons-in-law, Debi and Kelles Fleming of Barnesville; Denise and Terry Elder of Dacula; Darlene and Scott McDonald of Marshallville; grandchildren and their spouses Josh and Brandi Elder; Morgan and Sonny Pruitt; Matt and Jolee Hughes; Jared and Ivie Hughes; Erin McDonald; and Travis McDonald; Jeremy and Rachel Fleming; Chuck and Shanna Moriarty; Nicholas Moriarty; and 10 great grandchildren.
