Obituary of Buford Williams

Mr. Buford Franklin Williams, age 89, of Milner, Georgia died peacefully in his sleep on June 3, 2016. Mr. Williams was born in Miller County, Georgia, to the late Mr. Josh Williams and the late Mrs. Pearlie Williams. He grew up near Donalsonville and graduated from Jakin High School in 1945. He joined the Navy in 1945 and participated in the Pacific theatre of World War 2, serving with the Seabees. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Mr. Williams moved to Griffin, Georgia, where he married Edith Jeanette Davis in 1948. They were married for 57 years until her death in 2006. He worked for Eastern Air Lines, Thomaston Mills, then General Motors, retiring from the Lakewood plant as an inspector in 1988. In 1979, he and Jeanette moved to Milner, where he lived the rest of his life. Mr. Williams was a faithful member of the Barnesville Church of the Nazarene. He loved being with his family and friends, playing with his loving dog Daisy, gardening, growing roses, working on cars, and building things in his workshop. After retirement, he and Jeanette loved to travel in their RV, taking several trips across the country and making many new friends. In addition to his wife, Mr. Williams was preceded in death by son Thomas Franklin (Tommy) Williams, brother Thomas Gerald (Hap) Williams and sister Betty (Peggy) Carr. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law – Terry and Elaine Williams of Griffin, and Mark and Susan Williams of Stockbridge, Georgia; three grandchildren, Shane Williams and wife Amber of Greenville, South Carolina, and Allie Williams and David Williams of Stockbridge; and three great grandchildren, Ella, Audrey and Miles Williams of Greenville; sisters-in-law Ann Williams of Griffin, Jacqueline Martin, & Ann Purmort; several nephews and nieces; and a special friend, Mrs. Geraldine Faulkner of Milner. Funeral Services for Mr. Buford Williams will be conducted Monday, June 6, 2016 at 2 O’Clock in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home with the Reverend Lonnie Grant officiating. Interment will follow, next to his wife, in Oak Hill Cemetery in Griffin. The family will receive friends at the Williams Funeral Home on Monday, June 6, 2016 from 12:30pm until the service hour.
