Obituary of Virginia Cole
Sara Virginia Cole died in her sleep at age 89 on September 24, 2015. Known as Ginny to her friends and loved ones, she was born on March 16, 1926, the treasured daughter of Sarah and Watson Sims of Barnesville. Though Virginia was an only child, her many cousins made her childhood rich with friendships that lasted throughout her life; her cousin Mary Ann Harper Niblett was her particular friend and confidante and as dear as any sister.
Virginia was a shy and gentle woman who loved God, her family and her friends. She married James Edsel Cole of Rockmart, GA in 1949. They eventually settled in Virginia’s childhood home with their three sons, James Edsel (“Ed”), Roger Lee, and Richard Kent (“Ricky”). Virginia was a loving and protective mother who raised her boys to be kind and loving men.
Though her later years were saddened by Ricky’s unexpected death in 1999 and Edsel’s death in 2010, Virginia was a woman of ardent faith who found comfort in God’s grace and joy in the small miracles of the everyday. A devoted Mema to her four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, Virginia delighted in spending time with them – teaching, creating, cooking, and loving. They will all miss her greatly.
Virginia is survived by two sons, Roger and Ed, and their wives, Dawn and Jackie, daughter-in-law Phyllis Cole, granddaughters Tara Lopez and Keri Cole and their families, grandsons Kendrick and Kevin Cole, step grandchildren Mike, Jeremiah, Jordan Morris and Amanda Maddox and their families.
The family would like to express their thanks to Rosa Willingham who lovingly cared for Virginia during the last years of her life.
Funeral services will be at 2pm on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Rocky Creek Baptist Church, visitation immediately following the services. In lieu of flowers, donations in Virginia’s memory can be made to the Rocky Creek Church Building fund 225 Rocky Creek Rd. Forsyth, GA. 31029.
