Obituary of Norman Smith

Mr. Norman Smith, age 62, of Barnesville passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009 at his residence after an extended illness. A native of Fulton County, Mr. Smith had made his home in Barnesville, and was the son of the late Mr. J.R. Smith and Mrs. Ruth Moore Smith. Mr. Smith was a Graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelors Degree in Political Science, and with a Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Georgia School of Law. He has practiced law since 1972. Most of those years have been spent operating a General Practice in Barnesville. He was a Member of the Georgia State Bar Association and the Towaliga Bar Association. Mr. Smith was a member of the First Baptist Church of Barnesville and a member of the Board of Directors for the First National Bank. He was also a Past President and member of the Barnesville / Lamar County Rotary Club. Survivors include: His wife, Mrs. Audrey Ball Smith of Barnesville ; His son, Carlyle Smith, and his wife, Yarrow, of Stockbridge ; His mother, Ruth Moore Smith of Barnesville ; His Brother, William Douglas Smith, and his wife, Judy, of Jacksonville, FL ; and 3 aunts, Mary Agnes Smith of Decatur, Bert Smith of Barnesville, and Frances Smith of McDonough. Funeral Services for Mr. Norman Smith will be conducted Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 11 O’Clock in the First Baptist Church of Barnesville with Reverend Garth Forster, Frank Abbott, and Reverend Ed Evans officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Residence of his mother, Mrs. Ruth Moore Smith on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 from 5:30pm until 7:30pm. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions be made to the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation, 1250 Fourth Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401, or to the First Baptist Church, 200, Zebulon Street, Barnesville, GA 30204.
