Obituary of George Strickland Weldon

George Strickland Weldon of Milner, GA passed away suddenly and peacefully at home on September 1st, 2024.  
 
George was born in 1954 to Julian Ashley and Florine Strickland Weldon of Milner, GA. In his youth, he attended Milner Elementary School, was active in the Milner Baptist Church youth group, and worked on the family farm on Weldon Lake Road after school. He served as a US House Of Representatives Page in Washington DC his junior year and graduated his senior year from Griffin High School in 1972.  He went on to study at Gordon Jr. College and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1976 with a major in Vocational Agriculture.  After teaching for several years, George had a 26-year career with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). 
 
While working for the FAA in Alma, Ga., George met his wife Regina Johnson 1981, and they were married on December 17, 1983. They were happily married for 40 years. George was a loving and devoted husband, a caring brother, uncle, great-uncle, and neighbor to many who knew him. His faith was very important part of his life and was active in his church, Milner United Methodist, leading the music in services.  
 
In addition to his career at the FAA, George was a civic luminary in Milner.  He served on the Milner City Council and on numerous committees and organizations such as Lamar Gives 365 and board member of the Barnesville-Lamar Community Foundation. George was instrumental in the building of the Milner Community Library and serving as Chairman for the Library Board for several years. He also carried on the legacy of caring for the Community House in Liberty Hill.   
 
In his leisure time George was an artisan in a variety of fields. He had a love of using his hands. He was a master at cooking, gardening, and jewelry making. George also enjoyed antiquing, pottery making, and growing plants and vegetables in his garden.  

 

George will be remembered by everyone who knew and loved him as a kind and gentle servant, deeply devoted to the Lord, his wife, family, and community. 

 

George is survived by his wife, Regina: 4 sisters, Joy (Kent) Kingsley, Janie (David) Massey, Julie (Eddie) Wilson, Jeanie (Sammy) Taylor, and 1 sister-in-law, Camille (Mike) Wheeler; 11 nieces & nephews, and 7 grandnieces & nephews. 

 

Services for George will be held Friday September 6th at 11 am at Milner Methodist Church. Visitation will be just prior at 10 am at the same location.

 

 In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to the Milner Community Library.
