My brother Bill excelled in any art medium he chose: oil painting, pen and ink, wood carving and ironwork. After learning to weld at Atlanta Area Tech, he started scavenging scrap metal from junkyards and welding them into fascinating sculptures in our back yard. He had been carving wood (he preferred cottonwood) and painting since his early teens. Bill could paint anything from a photograph, so we commissioned him to paint portraits of two of our grandchildren when they were still in highchairs. He also painted a wonderful portrait of a co-worker's horse, which my office presented to her at her surprise birthday party. Bill's futuristic car designs, turned into three dimensional models out of balsa wood, were submitted several years in a row to the GM Fisher Body design competition. One year he won best in state. As Bill's obituary stated, his legacy will live on through both his children and his artwork, some of which I am privileged to enjoy.
