Obituary of James Merrill Corley
Mr. James Merrill Corley, age 80, of Barnesville, Georgia, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Merrill was born on Tuesday, May 2, 1944, Barnesville, Georgia, to the late James Onis Corley and the late Bessie Mae Ross. In addition to his parents, Merrill was preceded in death by his son, James Arnold Corley, and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy (Herbert) Torbert and Wayne (Earl) Dawson.
Merrill was a member of Rock Springs Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and loved his Lord and family with all his heart. He also loved family devotionals and was a deacon at his previous church. Merrill enjoyed gardening, listening to music, especially old-fashioned singings and homecomings, and taking road trips. He was the family vacation planner. After retiring, he took up cooking and always had dinner ready and on the table when Mrs. Mildred got home. Merrill loved history; therefore, he did all the family ancestry. He also loved to joke around, anything that he said was either wise or a joke.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mildred Faulkner Corley; daughters and son-in-law, Kasandra Thomas, Amelia (Paul) Newham, Melissa Walraven; grandchildren and their spouses, Jamison (Alana) Corley, Thomas (Mychaela) Hoard, Nathan Newham, Hannah Newham; great grandson, Tanner Corley; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Rock Springs Church with Pastor Benny Tate officiating. Interment will follow the service at Lamar Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, from 6 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
