Obituary of Phyllis Ann Bettis
Please share a memory of Phyllis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mrs. Phyllis Ann May Bettis, age 80, of Milner, Georgia, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Phyllis was born on Monday, May 3, 1943, in Sweetwater, Tennessee, to the late Robert May and Josie Belle Amber May. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers: Olane May, George May, Jerry May, and Donald May; sisters Imogene Garbett and Jane McCosh.
Phyllis loved deeply and was fiercely loyal. She was selfless and devoid of greed. She was devoted to her family in heart, mind, and capability. After moving to Georgia, she and David both worked two and three jobs each to save for land and a house. They built their house laying each brick, hanging each piece of sheet rock, and each door themselves at night and weekends after work. They raised their family, many cattle dogs, and several horses on their farm in Clayton County. Phyllis is most well known for being the owner, operator, butcher, biscuit maker, hay bale and feed sack fetcher, lunch preparer and finance manager of Rainwaters General Store. She was tough, hard working, fearless, and loved the Lord. She loved her beautiful granddaughter, Meghan (Bettis) Ritter to the moon and back.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, David Edward Bettis, her children, Pamela Bettis and Patrick Bettis, and her only grandchild, Meghan Bettis Ritter and brother, Dwight May (Sandra). She will be deeply missed as she was the glue, epoxy and soul of her family.
