Obituary of Spencer Faulkner
Lieutenant Colonel Robert Spencer Faulkner, Sr., age 93, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.
Robert was born on Thursday, October 23, 1930, in Hogansville, Georgia to the late James Luther Faulkner and the late Mattie Freeman Faulkner.
Spencer attended Gordon Military Junior College, soon after he graduated from Mercer University he began concentrating on his military service. He was a career officer in the United States Army, where he served in Korea and Vietnam. Robert’s family traveled the world with him from base to base and experienced the adventures of military life. Posts served were Fort Jackson (SC), Fort Carson (CO), Fort Belvoir (VA), Fort Benning (GA), Fort Leavenworth (KS), Bad Tolz/Oberammergau (Germany). Lieutenant Colonel Faulkner was a proud veteran and served his country with pride.
Upon his retirement from the Army, Spencer enjoyed traveling, riding his motorcycle, listening to country music, going out to eat, sitting outside on nice days, and “Swisher Sweet Cigars”.
Spencer’s children Bob and Hope will always love and respect their father for making them “Army Brats”.
The symbol of the dandelion. They put down roots almost anywhere. They are almost anywhere. They are impossible to destroy. They adapt easily and can survive nearly anywhere. A true symbol of our beloved Spencer!
Spencer is survived by his loving wife of 8 years, Mildred “Midgie” Faulkner; his children and spouses, Hope Mason (Rev. Don), Bob Faulkner (Mona); his step-son and spouse, Timothy T. Turner (Kelley); grandchildren and spouses, Kisa Mason (Viv), Matt Mason (Erica), Caden Faulkner; step-grandchildren, Savannah Turner, Marleigh Turner; great grandchildren, Lucas Mason, Quinn Mason, Liam Mason.
Spencer truly lived an extraordinary life and loved his family dearly, and his legacy will forever live on through the people of his life.
A Graveside Funeral Service for Mr. Robert Spencer Faulkner will be held on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Greenwood Cemetery with Reverend Don Mason and Dr. William McKoy officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, December 30, 2023, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
