Obituary of Stephen Smith Copeland

Stephen Smith Copeland, age 76, of Barnesville, Ga., passed away suddenly on October 2, 2023.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Frances Copeland of Locust Grove, and his brother-in-law, Harold Self. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann Elrod Copeland; Son, Keith Copeland (Amanda); Grand-Daughters Julie Copeland Parker (Mason), Kellie Copeland Sparks (Cody), Lainey Copeland Shearer (Cayden), Josie Copeland and Brynley Copeland; Grandsons Wyatt Copeland and Wade Copeland; Great Grandson Waylon Parker, Great Grand Daughter Millie Parker; Sister, Joellen Copeland Self; Brothers-in-laws Lamar Elrod, Harold Elrod, Bobby Elrod, Mike Elrod (Connie); sisters-in-law Janie Elrod, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Steve lived all but 2 of his 76 years on his family's farm on Leguin Mill Road in Locust Grove, having moved to Barnesville recently to be nearer their grandchildren. He was a 1966 graduate of Henry County High School and was retired from the Henry County Water Authority.

Steve spent his free time enjoying breakfasts and storytelling with friends in downtown Barnesville, running errands for the family, and spoiling his grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, October 5th, at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 104 Dub Walker Road, Jackson, Ga. Visitation is scheduled at 10:00 a.m., and the Service at 11:00.
