Obituary of Lynnell Bishop Harris
Lynnell Bishop Harris of Barnesville, GA died peacefully at her home at Sunny Grove Assisted Living on July 19, 2023, at the age of 88.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Fletcher Bishop and Geraldine Moore Crumpton, sister Anita Jane Bishop, and husband Jack Maddox Harris. She is survived by her daughters Lynn McCormack (Vince), Joan Jordan (James), Pam Dukes (Craig), and Jerri Oglesby (Jerry); grandchildren Kyle Beckman (Audrey), Melissa Bristol (Mike), Emily Vreken (David), Phillip Jordan (Lystra), Patrick Dukes (Lauren), Kristina Werner (Chris), Heather Mize (BJ), Chris Dantzler (Shannon), Kris Ferrell, Ron Porter, Jolee Porter (Conor Mulroe); and 22 great-grandchildren.
Lynnell was born on December 2, 1934, in Decatur, GA. She grew up in and around Atlanta but also spent a great deal of time at her grandparents’ farm in Mount Zion. She graduated from Fulton High School and spent her career in the secretarial/clerical field, with many years at RCA Victor Corporation. As an adult, she lived in Smyrna, attending Green Acres Baptist Church, and being involved in her girls’ school and extra-curricular activities.
Lynnell married her beloved Jack Harris in 1977 and subsequently moved to Riverdale, Jonesboro, and finally Barnesville, where they were long-time members of First Baptist Church. During this time they enjoyed traveling in their RV, doting on their ‘pasture pets’ of cows, horses, and miniature donkeys, and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Many will remember Lynnell as a vocal, and often barefoot, spectator and score keeper at hundreds of her girls’ summer softball games. She was an avid reader; the Barnesville librarians knew her so well, they often preselected and held new books just for her! She enjoyed crochet, cross stitch, and all types of games, including crossword puzzles. And she never met a chocolate candy she didn’t like, a trait she passed on to her daughters!
A Graveside Funeral Service for Mrs. Lynnell Harris was held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in Greenwood Cemetery with Reverend Jason Teal officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Barnesville, 200 Zebulon Street, Barnesville, GA 30204, Wounded Warriors, Sunny Grove Assisted Living Activities Department; or any charity of the donor’s choice, including orphanages or animal rescue organizations.
