Obituary of William "Bill" Lando Walker
Mr. William "Bill" Lando Walker, age 80, of Milner, died on Mother's Day weekend, May 13, 2023 at his residence. Mr. Walker was born on Mother's Day, May 9, 1943, into a family of 15 children, 11 boys and 4 girls. He graduated from Lavonia High School in 1962 and served in the Navy from 1963-1966, where he was a jet mechanic on the USS Independence during the Vietnam War. Mr. Walker met his wife, Linda Robertson, while attending Young Harris College in 1967. They were married over 54 years ago on February 14, 1969. Mr. Walker transferred to the University of Georgia, earning a Bachelor of Science and Math in May 1971. In 1974, he was awarded a master's degree in vocational administration from the University of Georgia. He taught a year at Franklin County High School, 2 years at Waycross High School, and 21 years at Lamar County Comprehensive High School, where he retired in 1997. Mr. and Mrs. Walker loved to travel the world, traveling across the United States in their recreational vehicle and visiting England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Italy, Mexico, Jordan, Egypt, and several Caribbean Islands. Mr. Walker raised cows, a variety of poultry, and grew fruits and vegetables on his family farm. His oldest brother, Issac, assigned him the hobby of genealogy and he published four family history books. He made over 80 quilt tops, a hobby that started at an early age when he helped his mother make quilts. He enjoyed playing cards with his family and watching the stock market. Mr. Walker's life lesson to share: "Don't ever give up."
Survivors include his wife, Linda Walker of Milner, sisters, Juanita Raudszus of Spokane, Oregon, Cora (Andy) Cole of Cumming, and Mary (Joe) Hardwick of Atlanta, brothers, Dick (Peggy) Walker of Cumming, Joel (Besty) Walker of Athens, Pete Walker of Toccoa, children, Melanie (Mike) Niblett of Jackson, Michelle (Geoff) Tiegen of Oakland, California, and Eric (Trisha) Walker of Milner, 7 grandchildren, Kimberly (Cameron) Perdichizzi of Williamson, Trista, Gareth,Caledonia, Lillian, Zalet, Vidalia, and one great-granddaughter, Cami.
Memorial services will be held at Milner Baptist Church on May 21, 2023, at 2:00pm. Graveside service with military honors and reception at the church immediately following. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the William Walker Scholarship Fund at United Bank.
