Dolie was a dear friend for 57 years. The last time I spoke to her (in 2021 or 2022), she told me she was having memory problems. The last time I called, the phone was disconnected and I found her obituary. I regret that I missed her service so I could meet her children and grandchildren she was so proud of. My sincere sympathy to all who loved her.

We are so sorry we did not know about Dolie. She was such a dear lady when our daughter was married 12 years ago . All the bridesmaids stayed at her wonderful home. And,she was so very gracious with her home, kitchen, dining room where friends hosted a luncheon on the wedding day. Also, we had family that stayed at her home through the years and it was always such a treat for them. Dolie was such a dear lady that gave back to Barnesville in so many ways. Dolie was a “force of nature” to the Barnesville community. She arrived by buying a local B&B at an auction that she had just happened to attend. She renovated the home, already an existing B&B, and created Antebellum Oakes, a gracious and beautiful home that once had been a. Confederate hospital during the civil war. But more than renovating this historic home, she became a valued member of the broader Barnesville community. Dolie was a friend. She was a member of our loosely organized group of woman who would gather for social events. She was also generous with her support for local organizations. She made Antebellum Oakes available to Lamar Arts for many successful fundraisers, such as The Derby Day fundraiser. She was admired for her outspoken attitude, her feisty independence and her unique sense of humor. She was greatly loved, and we will miss her.

What an honor and a pleasure it was to know and love Dolie McCarthy. She was truly one of a kind. A bit crusty and forthright on the outside, she could always be counted on to give an honest opinion about anything, large or small. That quality most certainly contributed to her successes in business and in life. That said, she was quick to shed a tear in sympathy and love for those close to her heart, including her feline “sweet babies,” and to help others who needed a helping hand. Her generosity of spirit glowed from within, and she never hesitated to express her love in words and actions. Several of us Barnesville and Griffin gals formed what we affectionately called the “coven,” and Dolie’s beautiful home served often over the years as a gathering place for our celebrations, the last taking place during this past Christmas season. Dolie will be missed terribly, but her amazing spirit will live forever in our hearts. Our special thanks to Cindy Yerkes, a fellow “coven” member whose devotion to Dolie was unwavering, and our deepest sympathy to her large and loving family.
