Obituary of Dorothy J. Rye Warren

Dorothy went to her eternal rest on April 24th, 2021, at the age of 91. She was born March 23, 1930, in Lamar Co., Alabama, and at the time of her passing she was living in Barnesville, Georgia. Dorothy was preceeded in death by parents William Largus Rye and Lannie Mae Rye, brothers William Hoyt Rye and Lois Cecil Rye. She is survived by sister Joann Strain, brother Jerry Rye, daughter Victoria Burt and son Jimmie Warren. Dorothy had 6 grandchildren Valerie Worrick, Angela Warren, Donnie King, Vanessa King, Amber Warren, and Jaimie Warren. She had 5 great grandchildren Joshua King, Jacob King, Alara Worrick, Kayla Davis, and Issac Webb. Dorothy spent her early years growing up in Sulligent Alabama. Upon finishing high school Dorothy married James O. Warren “Pete” spending their first few years in Lamar County Alabama. In 1950 Dorothy, Pete and their children moved to Kenosha Wisconsin for better employment opportunities. It was there that Dorothy began her career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Upon divorce from Pete in 1974 Dorothy and later moved to Georgia and continued her career as a CNA until her medical retirement from being a CNA in 1978. Dorothy then continued working part time as a cook in several restaurants in Griffin GA until she retired fully and moved near her daughter Victoria then living in Barnesville, GA, on a cattle farm. Dorothy then spent her remaining years helping tend to the cows, bulls and donkeys on the farm which she loved. The animals all loved her as well and would get excited when Dorothy came out to feed them. Dorothy loved the Lord and was a member of the Living Waters Church in Griffin, GA. A memorial will be held at the Living Waters Church on June 3rd at 2 p.m. Dorothy will then be buried at the Sulligent City Cemetery in Sulligent, AL, during a private graveside ceremony on June 4th at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to a local animal shelter of your choosing.
