Obituary of Joyce Brooks Haire

Mrs. Joyce Brooks Haire, age 83, of Barnesville, passed away Friday, June 10, 2016, at her home. Mrs. Haire was born January 20, 1933 in Calhoun County, Georgia, daughter of the late Millard Dave and Millie Rose Strickland Brooks. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tift College with a bachelor’s degree in English and Journalism. She was the Alumni Director at Tift from 1979 to 1984. During this time she also wrote profiles of interesting people for the Herald Gazette. She later became employed at Warner Robins Air Force base where she retired in 2013 at the age of 80. Mrs. Haire was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was stationed in occupied Japan. Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Haire Kelley; her sons, David Haire III (Lynn) and Danny Haire (Laura); grandchildren, Sage Kelley, Jeremy Haire, Brandon Haire (Lindsey), Rebekah Farnsworth (Nathan), Sarah Steward (Matt), Lydia Haire, Ransom Haire, and Emme Haire; sister, Margie Brinkley; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, David B. Haire, Jr. and daughter, Linda Haire. Funeral services will be at 3:00 on Sunday at the Church of the Nazarene of Barnesville with Rev. Talmadge Pope officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 6:00 until 9:00.
