Obituary of Leonard McKinley
Mr. Leonard (Sonny) (Lonesome) McKinley, 69, of Thomaston passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at his home. He was born January 27, 1945 in Thomaston, son of the late Oscar (Russ) and Bessie Boyt McKinley.
Mr. McKinley attended Kings Chapel in Thomaston. He retired from Thomaston Mills with 40 years of service and worked at J & M Tank Lines in Milner until he fully retired. Mr. McKinley had formerly owned and operated the McKinley Brothers Wrecker Service. He enjoyed working the arts and crafts shows having worked at the Chitlin Hoedown for 18 years. Mr. McKinley was also an auctioneer, but his favorite pastime was making homemade clocks. He had several pet peacocks, polish chickens and a rooster named Ralph.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Dianne McKinley; daughter and son-in-law, Casey and Jimmy Warren; two grandsons, Brandon Warren and Cody Warren, all of Thomaston; sisters and a brother-in-law, Linda Hoyal of Molena, Mary Watson of Thomaston and Vickie and David Griffin of Thomaston; brothers and sister-in-law, Donny and Teresa McKinley of Milner and Ricky McKinley of Thomaston; a very special uncle and aunt, J.B. and Ruby McKinley of Thomaston; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Mike McKinley.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 Friday at the Breedlove Memorial Chapel with Rev. Eddie Mathews officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery. The family will be at his home, and will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
