Obituary of Britton Cauthen
Mr. Britton Eugene Cauthen, age 33, of Barnesville passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at his residence. A lifelong resident of Lamar County, Britton is the son of Dr. Gerald Cauthen and Mrs. Hedy Scoggins Cauthen. He was preceded in death by his Maternal Grandmother, Mrs. Helen Clark Scoggins, and by his Paternal Grandmother, Mrs. Lillie Stanford Cauthen. Britton was employed as a Firefighter & Paramedic with the Henry County Fire Department, and with the Lamar County Fire Department. He was very involved in teaching Fire Safety through Clown Camp, in the school systems, and through his favorite charity, to which he donated a week’s vacation of his time every year to serve as a Camp Counselor for Camp Oo-u-la, which is funded and sponsored by the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation. Britton was named as the “Britton Cauthen Firefighter of the Year” in 2007, and was awarded the Medal of Honor by the Henry County Fire Department in 2009. He was an Eagle Scout, as well as a member of the Barnesville First Baptist Church.
Survivors include: His Daughters - Rebecca Ann Cauthen (age 10) of Barnesville, & Madison Elizabeth Cauthen (age 7) of Barnesville ; His Parents - Dr. Gerald & Mrs. Hedy Scoggins Cauthen of Barnesville ; 2 Brothers - Christopher S. (& Jessamy) Cauthen of Tallahassee, FL, & Blane T. Cauthen of Barnesville ; 1 Sister - Lauralee (& Ken) Felts of Greenbrier, TN ; His Maternal Grandfather - James T. Scoggins of Manchester ; His Paternal Grandparents - Roy E. (& Jan) Cauthen. A Number of Aunts, Uncles, & Other Relatives, Co- Workers, & Friends also survive.
Funeral Services for Mr. Britton Cauthen will be conducted Monday, May 10, 2010 at 2:15pm in the Lamar County Fine Arts Auditorium with the Reverend Garth Forster, the Reverend Ryan Christopher, & Lamar County Fire Chief Steve Andrews officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Williams Funeral Home of Barnesville on Saturday evening (5-8-2010) from 5pm until 8pm.
The family has asked, that in lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions be made to Camp Oo-u-la, c/o the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation, 2575 Chantilly Drive, Atlanta, Georgia 30324 ; or to the Lamar County Volunteer Fire Department.
